8 Questions to Ask When Choosing an Implant Clinic
Many clinics in Istanbul, especially in Bahçelievler and on the European side, offer implant services. To make the right decision, we recommend asking the following questions beyond price. This list is for information and does not claim that any clinic is superior to another.
8 questions
- Who will perform the procedure and what is their specialty? Surgical and gum-health experience matter.
- Which implant system is used? Ask about brand, origin and component traceability (see the implant guide).
- How is planning done? Use of 3D imaging and, if needed, a surgical guide.
- Will bone or gum procedures be needed? This possibility should be discussed from the start.
- Is the treatment plan in writing? Stages, duration and fee items should be clear (see factors that affect implant prices).
- Is a guaranteed result promised? A promise of a certain outcome is not a sound approach in medicine; realistic information should be expected.
- How are follow-up and complications managed? Follow-up sessions and access in an emergency.
- What are the hygiene and sterilization protocols?
Implant success is related both to surgical technique and to patient care (Albrektsson et al., 1986; Resnik & Misch, 2018).
The logic behind the questions
These questions help you distinguish not which clinic is “good”, but which one is transparent about the process. For example, a written treatment plan lets you know what you will encounter and ensures that possible additional procedures are discussed in advance. Using 3D imaging during planning makes it possible to assess the position of structures such as nerves and sinuses beforehand, which helps manage the risk of complications (Resnik & Misch, 2018).
What should you expect at the first appointment?
- Examination of the mouth and gums, with X-rays or tomography if needed
- Questions about general health and medications
- Explanation of more than one suitable option (implant, bridge, denture)
- Open discussion of risks and limitations
- Time to consider the written plan and fee information
Warning signs to note
Quoting a fixed price or duration without an examination, giving no information about risks, promises such as “guaranteed result” or “100% success”, and competing only on price are signs worth questioning. Implant success is known to depend on many factors, including surgical technique, bone quality, patient care and follow-up (Albrektsson et al., 1986). Promises focusing on a single factor are therefore unrealistic.
What you can do before deciding
Do not rush; take the written plan home and review it. If needed, get a second opinion from another dentist. Having your gum health evaluated by a periodontist is also important for the long-term health of the implant (see implant aftercare).
Frequently asked questions
Is it right to get a second opinion?
Yes, it is a reasonable approach before major treatment.
Is an implant of foreign origin better?
Origin alone does not determine the outcome; the system, planning and execution all matter together.
How do I book an appointment in Bahçelievler?
You can reach us via our contact page.
Does every dentist who places implants have the same experience?
No; surgical and prosthetic experience varies from dentist to dentist. It is reasonable to ask about training and experience.
How often are follow-up sessions held?
Frequency is set according to your plan; more often during the initial healing period and periodically afterwards.
Whom do I contact if I have a problem?
Ask from the start about emergency access and post-procedure support.
