Digital smile design steps
- Analysis: Facial and smile photos, a short video, examination of the teeth and gums.
- Digital impression: 3D scan with an intraoral scanner.
- Design: Tooth length, width, shape and colour are planned according to the facial midline and lip line.
- Mock-up (trial): The design is transferred into the mouth with a temporary material; the patient sees the new smile in the mirror and in photos.
- Treatment: Zirconia, veneers or bonding are applied according to the approved design.
Pink aesthetics: the gums are part of the smile
Asymmetry in gum level, excessive gum display (gummy smile) or gum recession affect the aesthetics of a smile. In these cases, periodontal plastic surgery procedures such as gum contouring (gingivectomy, crown lengthening) or grafts are included in the design. For muscle-related excessive gum display, Botox can be an option.
